Leg Acy

My cautious courage and motivation to write this brief treatise
Emanated from the observable courage and skill
That suddenly appeared before me without reservation
On a warm summer evening some months ago
In a place where the train stops at Princeton’s station

I speak with awe yet determination
Of the heartfelt words that were uttered
By my fellow Drew graduate
Who in the course of her many endeavors
Provides intense hope and opportunities for many
Who are not offered the privilege of life’s management

I did not know among her beauty, skills and talents
That somehow someway she must valiantly steal moments
To explore and sing her stories
Through the vehicle of poems glory

And so I decided to walk humbly
In my boss’s marvellous footsteps
And share my secret with her
And she did with so many
And write these few words that remain
Words, Action and visions in a head with a complete rumble

More often that not
Given the challenges and rigors
In a place with limited cash
It is far easier to sit down and think about poems
Than face policies, programs and RFPs with only hash

So what does this have to do
With a Catholic School Guy
Who loves the South Bronx Yanks
A hot dog, cold beer on a hot summer’s day
And what does he have to do
With a cute Black girl from the South Bronx
Cause they both grew up and developed in towns known for a good Irish stew!

I have struggled with this concept of Leg Acy
For a number of years since I reached
That immense number
Where the aches and pains send reminders that thunder

I am certain this guy and me both share
These reasonable challenges
Knowing as I do
That age rides steadily on the haunches of a beauty mare.

And so as we both say adieu
I am certain of many things
We have more in common than was ever discussed
During our weekly meetings where sometimes we fussed
We shared a common denominator
That was not impacted by
Place, city, or such

More often than not it was the pain and suffering
Of so many among us
Those that cry silently
Only in ear shot of the dust

We both have devoted our lives, loves and limb
To the exploration, sojourn and search
For the balm
That ultimately will lead consumers to peace
So many never find not even in church

And so as this guy who loves the Yanks, leaves the garden state
To search for many others to offer help
I bid him farewell
Good Luck and Godspeed
And say without hesitation, “Give em hell”!
